About This Location

Sachuest Point NWR juts out into Rhode Island Sound near the town of Middletown, creating a natural concentration point for coastal and wintering birds. The refuge is one of the most reliable spots in the Northeast for Harlequin Ducks, which winter among the rocky shoreline.

The 3-mile Ocean View Loop trail hugs the coastline, offering excellent views of sea ducks, Purple Sandpipers on the rocks, and occasional Snowy Owls on the grassy headlands. The thicket habitats attract migrating songbirds in spring and fall.
